Perth
A Beachcomber’s Guide to Perth
The beaches of Perth are undoubtedly one of the city’s greatest selling points. Australia’s western coastline offers stunning vistas of the Indian Ocean, and there is surely nowhere better to enjoy these panoramas than from one of the pristine beaches in the Perth area. With so many to choose from, tourists may find it a little difficult at times to know which beach is the right one for them. To help along the way, here is a selection of some of Perth’s most beautiful beaches.
Cottesloe Beach
Cottesloe is probably the most famous beach in Western Australia, and it continues to attract visitors in their droves to this day. It is also very close to the city’s CBD, so you can easily get there within about 15 minutes by car. The swimming zones are predominantly family-friendly, although surfers can find bigger waves in the area, too. Aside from the crystal-clear waters and golden sands, Cottesloe also has a plethora of restaurants and cafes to help quench your thirst after a sun-kissed day on the beach.
The Basin at Rottnest Island
Located within 30 minutes of Perth by ferry, Rottnest Island is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions. The island also plays host to The Basin, which has been awarded the significant honour of Australia’s top beach in the recent past. Within seconds of arriving here, you will see why. The Basin boasts some of the whitest sand you are likely to find anywhere, and the views of distant yachts in the ocean will transport you to another world.
Scarborough Beach
For surfing, swimming or snorkelling, you will be hard pushed to find a better place in Western Australia than Scarborough Beach. Like many Perth beaches, Scarborough has miles of white sand at its disposal, and is easily reached from central Perth. Nevertheless, it is arguable that Scarborough’s USP is its huge covered outdoor area which provides a welcome breather from the searing sun.
Perth beaches are known the world over for their spectacular beauty, and this makes a trip to one of the above a great way to spend a day in the area. While you are in Perth, you can make the most of a wide variety of charge card offers. Holders of charge cards can earn rewards points on a range of purchases, and these points can be spent on travel and lifestyle benefits.
