Increased Visitors Tourist Destination In Mexico
Secretary of Tourism, Gloria Guevara Mango, conducted a working tour of the West Coast of the United States to promote Mexico as a tourist destination and increase the number of visitors from that country to the country.
The first point of this visit is the city of Seattle in Washington State, where he will meet with directors of the company Expedia, the online travel agency world’s largest, who runs Dare Khosrowshahi, and Scott Durchslag, President Expedia World Wide.
Expedia has offices in over 60 countries, listed on the NYSE and provides reservation services for airline tickets, cruises, hotels, car rentals and vacation packages around the world: in 2010 the company had sales of more than three thousand dollars and 348 million set aside 79 million hotel rooms.
Expedia last year named Mexico as their best-selling international destination and second in total sales after Las Vegas, Nevada.
Accompanied by the Consul of Mexico in Seattle, Alejandro Garcia, deputy director general of the Tourism Board of Mexico, Rodolfo Lopez Ingrate, and the Secretaries of Tourism of Sinaloa and Yucatan, Orillia Rice and Juan Jose Martin, respectively, the head of The Tourism Ministry will meet with Joseph Sprague, vice president of Alaska Airlines, a company that has worked with Mexico for over 20 years.
During 2010 the company transported 159 000 passengers a million between the two countries in the first six months of this year moved to 790 000 passengers, 32 percent more than the same period last year.
Alaska Airlines currently flies to nine destinations in Mexico: La Paz, Los Cabs, Mazatlan, Itapúa, Loreto, and Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Guadalajara and the capital.
In the cities of Seattle and Los Angeles held on Mexico Day, which will be attended by leaders of the tourism industry and the media of the west coast.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Tourism Ministry) will present the products offered by the country to international visitors as the Undo Maya, Routes of Mexico’s Colonial Treasures and Magical Towns.
Besides the archaeological sites, sites declared as World Heritage and events like the World Summit Adventure and the International Cultural Tourism Trade Fair.
The visit is part of a strategy to promote Mexico Tourism Department that began in Chicago, New York and Washington, and in the coming days will also include Atlanta and Houston.
The work plan includes Sector promotional campaigns in major American cities.
The aim is to increase the number of visitors to the country, since it is the top destination for American tourists, with a market share of 16.5 percent, according to figures from the Commerce Department that nation.
