A Holiday of Great Variety
Gran Canaria is the second most populated of the Canary Islands. While its sister island, Tenerife, is the largest and most populated, Gran Canaria has many attractions and natural wonders that Tenerife does not. Due to the various climates that are found throughout the island, Gran Canaria is often dubbed a “Miniature Continent.” A third of the island is actually under the protection of UNESCO. Some of the most popular sights and sounds to check out on the islands are the natural wonders.
Palmitos Park is a combination of a zoo, a park and an aquarium. Located only 13 miles from the centre of the city, this attraction is very popular with tourists of all ages, from young children to adults. Their bird show is by far one of their more popular draws, as well as the dolphin show. There is a restaurant inside of the park, so you won’t have to travel far to get lunch. Make sure you check out the Parrot Show before you leave!
Roque Nublo is one of those places you believe only exists in books or movies. The grandeur and waiflike appearance of this beautiful natural wonder is unsurpassed. The most tedious part of the journey would be the narrow roads that you have to drive on to reach the rocks. Once that is done, there is a series of trails and small village attractions to visit while you are in the area. When in search of cheap Gran Canaria holidays, you can’t beat a lower budget attraction than this!
Playa de Las Canteras is a beautiful strip of shoreline. This Gran Canaria beach draws many tourists, promising crystal blue waters and abundant flora and fauna. You’ll also enjoy checking out the Casa de Colon, which was the house that belonged to Christopher Columbus. It’s now a historical museum, showcasing his personal belongings, as well as an accurate portrayal of his life and adventures. Cocodrilo Park is a beautiful place to visit, but look out for the crocodiles – they might bite! There are plenty of “terrible lizards” to view here.
